Guillermo Prieto was one of Mexico's most influential writers in the19th century. His frank descriptions about Mexican politics and the war in the book, Apuntes para la historia de la guerra entre Mexico y los Estados Unidos (Notes on the History of the War between Mexico and the United States), was banned by Santa Anna in 1852.
