Mexican General Mariano Paredes y Arrillaga led a successful revolt against Santa Anna in 1844. As a result, Jose Joaquin de Herrera became the leader of Mexico. Just one year later, Paredes would overthrow Herrera's government and take control of Mexico himself. In August 1846, Paredes would find himself ousted from power. In a twist of irony, his successor would be Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna. Mariano Paredes y Arrillaga (1797 - 1849)
